Policarpo “Paul” “Carpio” Oliva, age 63, of Excelsior Springs passed away Sunday morning, July 2, 2023, at home in Excelsior Springs.

Paul was born on May 30, 1960, the son of Joseph Alvarez and Guadalupe Oliva in Kansas City. He grew up in Kansas City and was a 1978 graduate of Lillis High School.

He married Jerri Mann on March 31, 1984, at the First Christian Church in Independence. They made their home and raised a family in Excelsior Springs.

Paul was a member of St James Catholic Church in Kansas City and Woods Memorial Christian Church in Excelsior Springs.

He was a printer by trade. Paul worked at Midtown Press, Lowell Press, Constable Hodges and Grey Stone Graphics.

He was a big Kansas City Chiefs fan and loved watching them every Sunday, surrounded by his family. Paul never knew a stranger and gave everyone a hard time. You could run into him at Subway, K-9 Clips, downtown or just about any local business.

He was always at all the school events and was like a secondary dad to many. However, becoming a papa was his greatest life adventure.

Paul will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Paul was preceded in death by his biological parents; mom and dad, Ramona and Manuel Aquino; grandmother, Julia Borjon; grandchild, Marley Oliva; uncle, Ricky Borjon; and Joseph Alvarez.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jerri of Excelsior Springs; children, Amanda Hawkins (Bill) of Excelsior Springs, Policarpo “Carpio” Oliva II (Whitney) of Excelsior Springs and Shannon Rippe (Michael) of Liberty; grandchildren, Brackett, Maelyn, Cole, Ellie and Sam; godchildren, Manuel Aquino III, Marissa Aquino and Josephine Hogue; and too many other nieces, nephews and godchildren to mention.

Other survivors include his siblings, Maria Trinder (Tom), Debbie Ashley (Rodney), Rachel Flores (John), Manuel Aquino II (Lisa), Susie Moran (Armando) and Steve Aquino (Bernadette); and aunts, Rosie Briseno, Jessie (John) Cunningham, Juanita (Tom) Rhodus and Carmella Armenta.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriners Hospital for Children or to Jerri Oliva to be used for his grandchildren’s education, in care of the funeral home.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 8, at Flack Memorial Christian Church, Excelsior Springs (1300 Tracy Ave.). The family received friends 6-8 p.m. the evening prior (Friday, July 7), also at the church. The family asked that visitors wear Chiefs gear and come prepared to share a story.

Burial followed the services at Windy Hill Cemetery, Excelsior Springs.

Arrangements entrusted to the care and direction of Stith Funeral Home in Polo. Phone: 660-354-2214. Online guestbook: www.stithfamilyfunerals.com.
