Richard William Garvin, 81, of Rayville, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020.

He was born on Saturday, June 3, 1939, in Excelsior Springs, the son of the late Virgil and the late Maurine (née Popejoy) Garvin.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and upon returning to civilian life, he became a union laborer in Los Angeles. His first wife passed away in 1993, and Richard retired from the Laborers’ Union.

He was an active member of the union for 25 years, and a retired union member for an additional 25 years, of which he was proud.

He married Cynthia Smith-Yount, on March 28, 1996, in Van Nuys, California. In January 1998, they moved back to the Rayville area.

He loved fishing and was a firearms enthusiast. He was a great father and loved his children. He was proud of their accomplishments, always attending their band concerts, dance recitals and ballgames.

He loved his dogs, especially Nick and Bo.

Survivors include: Cynthia Garvin, wife, of Rayville; Adam Yount, son, of Gladstone; Maureen Prewitt and Austin Prewitt, daughter, of Richmond; Emily Garvin, daughter, of Rayville; Virgil Garvin Jr. and Barbara Garvin, brother, of Excelsior Springs; Roy Garvin and Shirley Garvin, brother, of Salem.
