Robert King

Robert Gene King, 77, of Rayville died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, at his home. Robert was born on Dec. 25, 1945, in Excelsior Springs, the son of Robert Clyde and Helen Genevieve (Miller) King. He was united in marriage to Sharon Lynn Robinson of Excelsior Springs on Sept. 30, 1963. She survives of the home.

Additional survivors include: three daughters, Linda King of Rayville, Brenda (Larry) Barham of Smithville and Kristy (Kyle) Gannan of Gallatin; seven grandchildren, Whitney (Justin) Nei, Kayla (Nick) Graham, Shad Barham, Brandon Edwards, Kristopher Mandacina, Laci Lewis and Connor Lewis; and seven great-grandchildren, Kyle Dirck, Kailyn Garnett, Hunter Garnett, Lyla Graham, Lucy Graham, Leah Graham and Cooper Robert Edwards.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Thomas King; and his grandson, Morgan Garnett.

Robert was reared and educated in the area of his birth. His work history included starting out in a rock quarry, then working at Ethyl Molded Products in Excelsior Springs, where he worked his way up to maintenance supervisor. Robert also worked for the American-Italian Pasta Factory in Excelsior Springs for eight years until he retired.

He loved and cherished his grandchildren and was instrumental in raising them. He considered them more like children than grandchildren. Robert also enjoyed hunting, fishing, mowing the lawn, landscaping, driving muscle cars, coaching softball and instructing karate.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Robert King Memorial Fund. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation with memorial services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m. and services to follow at 2.

Inurnment will follow the services in Crowley Cemetery, Rayville.
