Shirley Radley

Shirley Ruth (Milne) Radley, 93, passed away July 21, 2023, in St. Joseph. Shirley was born on Jan. 4, 1930, in Forbes to James Ralph and Grace (Bailey) Milne. After she graduated in 1948 from Oregon High School, she attended the University of Missouri, where she graduated in 1952. In 1952, Shirley married Edgar Lee Radley in Oregon, Mo. The couple had three children – Ramona Ruth, Joan Marie and Larry Lee.

Shirley was a supportive wife and mother, wearing many hats from housewife to secretary to teacher. Her most prominent role was co-owner of the Coast to Coast store in Excelsior Springs, which she and her husband Ed owned and operated from 1967 to 1990.

Shirley loved to travel, play games and visit with anyone. According to her, she had the best family. “Some may have some just as good, but nobody has one better” was often heard by those around her.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; brother, Harrison; and daughter, Joan.

She is survived by her daughter, Ramona Lewis of Savannah; son, Larry Radley (Shelly) of Universal City, Texas; brother, Dr. Jay (Susan) Milne of Springfield; sister, Betty Bendure of Oregon, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Aug. 5 at the Excelsior Springs First United Methodist Church, where Shirley was a longtime member. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., with the service to follow at 10.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Oregon, Mo.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Excelsior Springs First United Methodist Church or the Red Cross.
