Teresa Berry

Teresa Lynne Berry (née Jones), age 62, passed away at 11:29 p.m. on March 13, 2023, of complications from brain cancer. Teresa was born on Aug. 2, 1960, in Chillicothe to Mary and Terry Jones. She spent her childhood on Williams Street in Excelsior Springs with her three siblings: Robert (Bob), Steven and Janet. In 1978, she graduated from Excelsior Springs High School and moved to North Kansas City shortly thereafter. While working at Farmland, she met Wilbur (Dean) Berry Jr. The couple were married on Oct. 12, 1985.

Teresa gave birth to two sons, Grant (1988) and Nicholas (1990). Being a mother was Teresa’s proudest occupation. She was deeply involved in the local community and the Parent Teacher Association and was a frequent substitute teacher.

Teresa went back to school to complete her bachelor’s degree in business at William Jewell College and her master’s degree in teaching at the University of Central Missouri. She then worked for more than a decade as an educator and coordinator in the Excelsior Springs school system. She was always busy, taking multiple part-time jobs, including as a cashier at Walmart and a local bank.

Teresa was preceded in death by her father, Terry; as well as her grandparents, Virgil and Nettie Jones, and Glen and Marjorie Worth. She is survived by her mother, her two sons, her ex-husband, her three siblings, seven nieces and nephews, and 12 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Teresa was immensely loved by her family and local community, and she will be missed dearly.
