Dec. 17, 1930-April 8, 2023

Theodore Richard (T.R.) Baldwin, M.D., 92, of Lawson passed away on April 8, 2023. Ted was born Dec. 1, 1930, to Cyrus Theodore (C.T.) and Sarah Helen (Baker) Baldwin in Hopkins. He graduated from Maryville High School. Ted was an accomplished person whose achievements included obtaining his private pilot license, graduating from Northwest Missouri State College with a degree in industrial arts and his U.S. Army service in the Korean War as a Jeep mechanic instructor stationed in Japan.

Following his return from Japan, he pursued his degree of doctor of medicine and graduated in 1963 from the University of Missouri School of Medicine. He served his medical internship and general surgical residency through the University of Michigan at Pontiac General Hospital.

After receiving his medical degree, he started a practice in Excelsior Springs, where he served the community until his final retirement in December of 2015. After 50 years of practicing medicine, he commented: “The best thing has been delivering babies, taking care of the families and watching the kids grow up – so many families I’ve taken care of for 50 years, some of them parents, children and grandchildren.”

In addition to practicing medicine, he enjoyed flying, hunting, fishing, leathercraft and woodworking.

He leaves behind his children, Lon Baldwin (Wendy), Linda Keller (Mike) and Brian Baldwin (Kim) from his first marriage; his wife, Zora Baldwin, and her daughters, Regina Whitaker and Rachelle McCormick (Brian); brother, William Baldwin (Dorothy), and their children; several grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Honoring his wishes, the family will celebrate his life privately.
