Gov.’s school mask ‘guidance’ weak

The new mask “guidance” for schools issued by Gov. Mike Parson’s administration last week is not the kind of decisive leadership Missourians deserve. The Parson administration told Excelsior Springs, Richmond and other school districts that if an infected person who is in school has contact with others at that school, but all involved wore masks correctly, then individuals exposed to the infected person do not need to quarantine. Instead, those exposed should: • Self-monitor for symptoms, • Stay home at the first sign of illness and • Continue to wear a mask at all times in public to further reduce the likelihood of transmitting the virus. There are several things wrong with this so-called guidance... First, unless members of the group exposed to the virus are medical professionals who can remember – perhaps up to two weeks later – whether everyone wore their masks “correctly,” or at all, then such guidance is nothing more than feel-good nonsense.
