Graves should support gold medal effort
There is no reason to doubt that U.S. Rep. Sam Graves and the rest of the House will agree to already unanimously accepted Senate legislation, sponsored by Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, to award the U.S. Army Ranger veterans of World War II the Congressional Gold Medal.
There is no reason to doubt Graves, whose district includes Excelsior Springs, will support the measure because he has shown his appreciation for World War II veterans. This appreciation extends to him flying a P-40 Warhawk – a World War II-era Army Air Force fighter – during an air show at Whiteman Air Force Base.
Another reason we would expect Graves to join other House members in supporting the measure is that one of the Army Rangers who would be honored is First Sgt. Frank Mattivi, who died in 2018. During the war, he attacked and with a grenade destroyed a German tank that targeted a building occupied by Rangers during the Battle of Cisterna in Italy.
