Letter to the Editor:

I want to say how much I appreciate so many things that are gong on in our town.  The Community Center has many new programs and because I’m a senior citizen I really appreciate the different exercise classes.  I know there are many other programs there even though I’m not a part of them.

The walking trails are great.  It is wonderful that many trees are being planted to make shade for the walkers.  Thanks for all the donations and the volunteers and workers.

The museum has so many good programs.  I want to get one of their new cookbooks.  They also collect Best Choice labels for a fundraiser.  Maybe you could help with that.  Thank you to all of the volunteers.

I appreciate the Good Samaritan Center letting exercise classes being held in their building.  This is a very busy place with all its’ different ministries, thanks to those who volunteer.  The Silver Sneaker class meets there and is having a fundraiser dinner and entertainment (for donations) on October 17 at 5:30 p.m.  We would love to have you come.  It would be great if you could call the center and leave a message for Opal if you plan to come and this way we would know how many to prepare for.  Feel free to come even if you don’t have a chance to call.

The Elms is so nice and has programs for all the local people.  I especially like the Zumba water exercise class.  There are other exercise classes too.  The charge for them is very reasonable.

I appreciate all the different businesses in the downtown area.  It is great to see so many of the buildings open for business.

P.S. I have thought of so many things since I closed this letter

I also want to mention the live theatres we have in town: Paradise Playhouse and the Slightly off Broadway Players (Excelsior Springs Community Theatre).  For the most part the plays are clean (though once in a while I am offended by a scene or some word) and fun.  It is great not to drive to the city for our entertainment.

Our police and fire department are very cooperative in their community outreach.  I have had both for programs at our church and they always do a good job.  Oh, yes I want to mention the fire department gives out free smoke alarms even with batteries.  Thanks to these two community services.

Our local hospital is very helpful.  Different employees will be glad to come and speak to your group.  We are lucky to have so many services there so close to home.  The Ladies Night Out is October 24 at 6 p.m. in the hospital’s community room.  It is an evening full of information, free services, fun and activities.  Also the volunteer auxiliary members and volunteers are active and fun loving.  They meet for lunch every three months.  You are always welcome to join them, just call the gift shop for reservations.  They meet this Thursday, October 10 at 12 p.m.

I love our community.
