Letter to the Editor:

I am a little disappointed in the opposition to the new Tiger Path program.  I personally believe that this program has the potential to make a huge difference in the lives of students who otherwise may be headed down the wrong path.  After spending almost 12 years working for the Division of Youth Services, I have seen first hand how much difference a small ratio of students-to-staff can make.  Smaller class sizes allow more time to get to know students and build relationships with them.  Sometimes all it takes for a child to be successful is a little extra attention and knowing that someone cares if they are in school or not.  These are children who are already in your neighborhoods; wouldn’t it make more sense to have them in school instead of running the streets?  I encourage you to ask questions, get involved and give the program a chance.
