To the Editor:

I’m looking forward to the open house about the new community center (this event was scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 5, but has been postponed to Feb. 12 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.).

Since we no longer have to pay for those silly city stickers maybe we could afford the 1% to pay back the 18 million dollars but I believe if we vote 1% sales tax to pay 18 million for the center then the whole thing should be used, including an outdoor swimming pool where kids and old people alike could use the pool without joining a “swim club.”

My family moved here in 1963 and for a while my children enjoyed the Hall of Waters but since the flood of 1993—21 years—people in Excelsior Springs could not enjoy swimming unless you had a lot of money to join swim clubs or go to the Elms.

Let’s go people! 21 years is long enough.
