Bearcats rout Chiefs to finish the regular season undefeated

A 62-16 Senior Night thumping of Santa Fe Oct. 21 at Simmons Field put varsity coach Kirk Thacker and his Bearcats in an elite group in Orrick football history. With the Central River Conference I-70 Division victory, the Bearcats finished their regular-season 8-man schedule 9-0. They are among a handful of Orrick varsity teams to post an undefeated regular season. Others include the 2007 and 2008 Class 1 state championship teams in 11-man football, coached by Pat Richard. Both of those teams also went undefeated in postseason play. “That doesn’t happen every day,” Thacker said Monday at the Orrick schoolhouse. When the season began, Thacker thought a perfect regular season “was possible,” yet seemed unlikely, he said. “This has been a very memorable season,” said Thacker, a 1987 Richmond High School graduate.
