Betts signs to wrestle with Carthage College

Alyssa Betts will soon head north. The Excelsior Springs senior recently signed her letter of intent to study and wrestle at Carthage College, an NCAA Division III program in Kenosha, Wis., with an undergraduate enrollment of 2,616 students. Located by Lake Michigan, Carthage has a new wrestling program. “I chose Carthage because of the size, location and wrestling program of the school,” said Betts, who’ll study neuroscience there, with plans to eventually attend medical school and then become a pediatric surgeon. The three-year wrestler looks forward to the change of style from folkstyle wrestling in high school to freestyle wrestling in college. “I’ve been wrestling folkstyle for the last three years, with only one summer of freestyle, so it will be interesting to make the switch,” she said.
