EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – On Dec. 10, the high school gym was packed, as 19 schools competed in the Excelsior Springs Girls Tournament. The Tigers had five girls take part in the wrestling action, producing two second-place finishers, a third-place finisher and two fourth-place finishers. Senior Jacey Brewer and freshman Sydnie Speakman were the runners-up. Brewer went 2-1. She won by fall against Brookfield’s Diana Linscott, lost by fall to Madison Leverknight and then finished with a win by fall against Park Hill South’s Maddie Fosmoe. Speakman dropped her first match to St. Joseph Benton’s Jayden Vice by an 8-5 decision. She went on to pin Kearney’s Grace Breshears and Chillicothe’s Addison Lewis and then won by forfeit over Sedalia Smith-Cotton’s Adrianna Burks. Sophomore Alyssa Betts finished third in her pool.
