Excelsior Springs is a district baseball champion again. With their 3-2 win over Benton of St. Joseph Wednesday at Excelsior Springs, the Tigers claimed the Class 4 District 15 title for the second straight season. Coach Aaron Holst confirmed Wednesday night via text message that it was the first time for the program to win two or more consecutive district titles since 1994-96, when Vic Bonuchi led the program. During that stint, the Tigers placed in the top four in the Class 3A state tournament in back-to-back seasons, finishing fourth in 1995 and third in 1996, Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) records state. Holst also confirmed that Excelsior Springs (26-12) will host the the District 16 champion on May 23 in sectionals, with the winner advancing to play in the state quarterfinals May 25.
