TOURNAMENT TIME

Excelsior Springs was looking to keep its varsity softball season going Wednesday.

The Excelsior Springs softballers were slated to open the Class 3 District 8 Tournament that day against St. Pius X of Kansas City at Miracle Field, with the winner to face top-seeded Savannah Oct. 19, also at Miracle Field, in the semifinals of the single-elimination postseason tournament.

Excelsior Springs entered the tournament by winning three of its last four regular-season ballgames, including a forfeit win. The local girls downed Warrensburg Oct. 7 at Excelsior Springs in a tussle of teams nicknamed the Tigers and then edged Benton of St. Joseph Oct. 8, also at Excelsior Springs.

An Oct. 10 road meeting with Bishop LeBlond of St. Joseph was forfeited to Excelsior Springs. The local girls fell Monday to visiting Truman of Independence 4-2 to finish the regular season at 8-11.
