COVID-19 halts winter sports practices at Excelsior Springs

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – It did not take long for winter sports practices to come to a halt at Excelsior Springs High School because of student-athletes testing positive for COVID-19. The girls basketball team was the first group the virus hit. School administrators were notified the morning of Nov. 3 of a positive test for an athlete who had been at practice the first day of practice. District officials followed COVID-19 protocol, contacting all the parents of those athletes involved in the first practice, held Nov. 2. It was decided that all players and coaches involved in the practice should leave school and take part in a mandated 14-day quarantine. The girls hoopsters are slated to return to in-person practices on Nov. 17. The boys basketball team practiced for three days before one of their studentathletes tested positive.
