Crowley wins trap, archery awards at fair

Ty Crowley was pleased with the grit he saw from his son Hunter July 11 at the Ray County Fair.

Hunter Crowley, a soon-to-be high schooler at Excelsior Springs and a member of the Millville 4-H Club, competed that morning in trap shooting and archery on the county fairgrounds in Richmond. The younger Crowley received the Best in Show award for ages 14-18. He also secured third places overall for both archery and shooting sports, confirmed Amanda Cringan, coordinator for Ray County’s 4-H shooting sports program.

The trap shooting event was his first time to shoot at 100 clay pigeons in a competition, he said. Before then, 50 had been his most attempts, said the younger Crowley, who’s in his fourth year of participating in shooting sports and his fifth in 4-H.

As the event progressed, Hunter Crowley could feel the effects of firing a singlebarrel shotgun 50 more times than usual, he acknowledged.
