Dolt wins title, leads Tigers to seventh-place finish at state

INDEPENDENCE – On March 11, four Excelsior Springs boys wrestlers traveled to Cable Dahmer Arena with high expectations. Three of those four came home with medals. And one of them was a state champion. Ayden Dolt, 42-1, completed his junior season as the Class 2 145-pound state champion. After receiving a first-round bye, Dolt took care of Seneca’s Clayton Swadley by fall in 1 minute, 12 seconds. Facing Harrisonville’s Brayden Talley in the semifinals, he advanced to the championship match by pinning Talley in 34 seconds. He capped his title run by pinning St. Clair’s Cameron Simcox in 1:49. Senior Damon Ashworth reached the championship match at 160, finishing second. He opened by taking care of Monett’s Corbin McCully in the quarterfinals with a 16-0 technical fall.
