Early momentum slips away from Excelsior Springs boys
Excelsior Springs is still seeking its first victory of 2025 in varsity boys basketball – and for the season in general.The Tigers opened the new year Jan. 3 with a 68-54 road loss to Odessa. The defeat dropped them to 0-9 overall entering a meeting with Winnetonka slated for Thursday at Excelsior Springs.The Excelsior Springs boys led early, scoring the first six points, courtesy of buckets by seniors Klayton Glaspy, Cole Rhine and Easton Ryan. Odessa, however, reset after calling timeout and claimed the momentum, eventually building a double-digit halftime lead.A give-and-go play from senior Jake Zapata to Rhine and back to Zapata opened the scoring for Excelsior Springs in the second half. Shortly after that, the Tigers got within 11 points.
