HIGGINSVILLE – On April 21, Excelsior Springs junior Ethan Edwards weathered a cold, windy day at Higginsville Country Club. And he had a first-place individual medal to show for his perseverance. Edwards shot an 84 to secure his medal at the Lafayette County Tournament, a competition featuring 10 high school boys golf teams and three types of events. Players participated in an individual round, a best ball team round or a scramble team round. The total of all three scores determined the tournament’s overall winner, with medals going to the first- and second-place teams, the top three individuals, the top three scramble teams and the top three best ball teams. In addition to Edwards, freshmen Jacob Schmidt and Gage Simmons finished in sixth place in the best ball competition, and sophomore Ryan Gluhm and junior Tristen Pekarek teamed up for a sixth-place finish in the scramble round.
