Errors plague ES softballers in three straight losses

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers continue to stay in games this varsity softball season with their bats. They continue to lose them because of their defense. Such was the case last week, when Excelsior Springs committed 11 errors over three games – all ending in losses, including two against MRVC West teams. The ballclub opened the week Sept. 15 at Warrensburg, falling 6-2 in its MRVC West opener. Excelsior Springs took the opening lead in the first inning, as junior Jordyn Pekarek reached base on a dropped third strike and scored on a two-out, left-field single by senior Mayce Barber. Warrensburg put two runs on the scoreboard on four hits and an Excelsior Springs error in the second inning. It remained 2-1 until the top of the fifth, when Pekarek singled and scored on an error to tie it at 2. The score quickly changed in the bottom of the fifth, with Warrensburg creating two more runs by taking advantage of an error and passed ball. Warrensburg finished the scoring in the sixth…
