ES boys and girls both place seventh at Kearney meet

On April 5, Excelsior Springs’ track and field athletes took advantage of some favorable weather. That day, the Tigers competed at the Kearney Classic Invitational. They set 38 personal records and left with six first-place finishes – three for the girls team, three for the boys team. On the girls side, first-year high schooler Pyper Layton won the high jump by clearing 1.5 meters. Kinley Rogers won the javelin by throwing 36.04 – a sophomore school record and just shy of her overall school record. The Tigers also won the 400-meter relay in 55.39 seconds. Excelsior Springs also won the boys 400 relay, finishing in 46.08. In boys individual events, senior Mason Wartner won the 800 in 2:03.97, and junior Kolin Kincaid took first in the long jump. In other girls results, Layton leaped 9.76 to place third in the triple jump, Rogers threw 31.78 to take fourth in the discus and a season-best 9.72 for eighth in the shot put, and senior Reagan Block cleared 2.43 for fifth in the pole…
