ES boys grapplers split triangular, take second at Grandview tourney
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers can start focusing on postseason wrestling.
They wrapped their regular-season schedule last week, first by splitting a triangular Jan. 26 at Pleasant Hill, then by taking second at a Jan. 29 tournament at Grandview.
The triangular opened with the Tigers falling 53-19 to Pleasant Hill, the state’s top-ranked Class 2 program. Junior Landen Davis started at 126 pounds by dropping his first match of the season in a 5-0 decision to Lane Snyder. Senior Gunner Zirjacks lost to Garrett Lyons by a 16-5 major decision at 132.
Excelsior Springs forfeited at 138 and 145 before junior Ayden Dolt won by a 17-1 technical fall over Ryan Volland at 152. Senior Clinton McCauley then picked up a 9-7 sudden-death overtime decision over Chase Davis at 160 for the Tigers.
Senior Damon Ashworth followed at 170 with a 20-5 technical fall victory over Lane Brattin. Sophomore J.B. Prestia then lost by pin at 182 to Donovan Davis. Junior Trystan Gilbert won by fall over Alden…
