Once again, Excelsior Springs played three varsity boys basketball games in one week. Once again, the Tigers dropped three varsity boys basketball games in one week. Excelsior Springs fell 71-33 to Winnetonka Jan. 30 at Excelsior Springs, 56-38 to North Platte Jan. 31 on the road and then 79-37 to Ruskin Feb. 2 in Kansas City. The losses followed an 0-3 performance the week before at the Richmond Winter Classic. HIGH-SCORING GRIFFINS Winnetonka took control with a 19-7 first quarter. The Griffins led 41-16 at halftime. The Griffins edged the Tigers 17-13 the third quarter. With Winnetonka’s 13-4 fourth quarter, the Griffins hit their scoring average of slightly more than 70 points per game. Junior Jake Zapata led Excelsior Springs with 12 points. Other scorers were junior Easton Ryan with seven points; junior Cole Rhine with four; and senior Ziha Hyche, juniors Carson Gholson, Deagan Barber and Cooper Bishop, and sophomore Brody Querry with two points each.
