Excelsior Springs’ latest varsity boys basketball season ended Tuesday. That night, the Tigers fell to Odessa at Oak Grove in the first round of Class 4 District 15 Tournament play. END OF THE REGULAR SEASON Excelsior Springs carried a 13-game losing skid into districts, including double-digit losses Feb. 20 at Smithville and Feb. 21 to visiting Oak Grove. The Tigers had to play catchup in their 80-42 road loss to Smithville – the Warriors’ 13th victory of the season. The Warriors scored the first five points and then staged a 16-6 first-quarter run. Smithville led 21-8 at quarter’s end. Sparked by a 7-0 run, Smithville outscored Excelsior Springs 25-6 the second quarter to lead 46-14 at halftime. The Warriors edged the Tigers 21-17 the third quarter. They then finished the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division meeting with a 13-11 fourth quarter.
