ES boys win early matches, but drop dual with Kearney

Excelsior Springs couldn’t sustain early victories in its lone varsity boys wrestling competition last week – a 52-22 Jan. 11 road dual loss to Kearney. The Tigers got wins at 126 and 132 pounds before Kearney took control with a string of victories. Senior Micah Danner won by a 13-3 major decision over Caden Underwood at 126 to improve to 17-3 this season. Junior Ryne Marcum improved to 17-4 with a win over Blaine Turpin by first-period pin at 132. From there, sophomore Gaige Carr fell to Kendahl Davis 11-6 in overtime at 138. Sophomore Desi Perez then dropped the 150 match to Kale Tucking by second-period fall. Senior Gage Peteries lost at 157 in the first period to Aiden Arellano. In other Excelsior Springs results, junior Kota Triplett battled with Cohen Dray at 165 before losing by fall in the second period. Britton Baker, a sophomore, dropped a 15-2 major decision to Carter Temple at 175. Junior Anthony Circo fell in the first period by pin to Jakweli Gist at 190. Lane…
