ES boys wins three events at Nick Sloop Invitational

Excelsior Springs had an unexpectedly short week last week in track and field. The Tigers competed at one meet – the Nick Sloop Invitational, held April 22 at Lawson. A second meet, scheduled for April 26 at Platte County High School in Platte City, was called because of inclement weather. Excelsior Springs produced 13 topthree boys finishers, including wins in three events. The Tigers won the 400-meter relay. In addition, Mac Morris won the 3,200 and Shia Hyche won the 200. The boys took second in seven events. Individual runners-up and their events were Luke Davis, 400; Joseph James, 110 high hurdles and 300 intermediate hurdles; Conrad Purnell, triple jump; and Mason Wartner, 800. The Tigers also took second in the 800 and 3,200 relays. Excelsior Springs took third in the 1,600 relay. Juniors Deagan Barber and Cooper Bishop took third in the pole vault and shot put, respectively. Excelsior Springs produced five topthree girls finishes. Sophomore Makenna Maring led the way,…
