Excelsior Springs varsity football coach Jake Danneman expects the weather to make its presence felt when his squad faces Warrensburg Friday on the road in a tussle of teams nicknamed the Tigers.

As Danneman pointed out Monday, the high temperature Friday is expected to be in the upper 90s. In addition, the Week 2 11-man contest will be played on synthetic turf.

“It’ll be 130 degrees on that turf,” he predicted.

The weather conditions expected for Friday aren’t what Excelsior Springs (0-1) experienced during its 54-22 season-opening road loss to Boonville.

“It was a great night for football,” Danneman said.

Danneman said his players would need to begin taking care of their bodies Monday to be prepared for the weather Friday. Specifically, they would need to replenish the water in their bodies nightly, he said.
