EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – A slow first quarter doomed Excelsior Springs Feb. 12, when the Tigers visited Harrisonville for a meeting in varsity girls basketball. Jumping out to a 14-0 lead, the Wildcats went on to down the Tigers 59-27. Stymied by Harrisonville’s press, the Tigers found themselves trailing 16-3 after one quarter and 33-7 at halftime. The Tigers kept pace with the Wildcats the third quarter, getting edged 13-12. Harrisonville outscored Excelsior Springs 13-8 the final quarter. The Tigers shot just 19% from the field and 52.6% from the free throw line. Junior Mallory Millsap led Excelsior Springs in scoring with 10 points. Freshman Baylee O’Dell scored six points, with senior Mayce Barber adding five, junior Rylie Stottlemyre scoring four and freshman Bailey Carder contributing two.
