ES girls champs, boys runners up at Marshall
Both Excelsior Springs cross country teams brought home honors when they ran at the Marshall Invitational.
Excelsior Springs won the girls portion of the Sept. 8 meet at Indian Foothills Golf Course with 31 points – 10 points ahead of runner-up Glasgow. Five runners finished in the top 30 to help the girls secure the title.
The boys placed second with 29 points – three points behind meet champion Richmond. Five top-25 finishers helped the Tigers place as runners up.
“This was a race where our runners were really able to test their ability to conquer hills,” coach Brian
Smarker said. “In a rebuilding year, like we have with the girls, it is great to see them get out and see them compete.”
