ES girls drop in season-best 62 points in rout of Knights

From a scoring standpoint, the Excelsior Springs varsity girls basketball team outdid itself on Jan. 4. That night, the Tigers crushed visiting Southeast of Kansas City 62-25 – their highest scoring output this season. Excelsior Springs took control early, leading 17-4 after one quarter. The Tigers then outscored the Knights 22-12 the second quarter to lead 39-16 at halftime. The Tigers continued their hot shooting in the third quarter, outscoring Southeast 16-2 to lead 55-18 entering the fourth quarter. Both teams scored seven fourthquarter points. Sophomores Kinley Rogers and Josie Casler led the Excelsior Springs scorefest. Rogers dropped in a career-high 28 points. Casler scored 11 points. Other scorers were senior Abby Rash with seven points, senior Baylee O’Dell and sophomore Bella Loeffert with six points each, and junior Lizzy Hormell and sophomore Kayden Rogers with two points each. Defensively, the Tigers forced 34 turnovers, including 25 steals. They scored 28 points…
