ES girls drop two in shortened MRVC West Tournament
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The girls side of the Missouri River Valley Conference West Tournament had fewer issues than the boys side did.
As a result, the Excelsior Springs girls got to play two tournament games – one more than their boys counterparts did.
Healthy and able to play, the Tigers opened Dec. 15 against Pleasant Hill, falling 57-34.
Pleasant Hill grabbed the opening lead and never looked back. The Chicks led 13-4 after one quarter. The Tigers outscored the Chicks 13-8 points to trail 21-17 at halftime. But then, the Chicks took control in the third quarter, exploding for 25 points and taking a 46- 22 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Tigers edged the Chicks 12-11 the final quarter.
The Chicks got four players into double figures. By contrast, Excelsior Springs had one player in double figures – junior Rylie Stottlemyre, who continued her streak of double-digit games with 11 points.
The Tigers shot 25% from the floor. The Chicks shot 37.7%.
