ES girls grapplers claim eight medals at Center tournament
Excelsior Springs capped the 2023 portion of its girls wrestling schedule by bringing home a fistful of medals.
The Tigers rang out the old year by competing at the Western Missouri Wrestling Tournament, held Dec. 27 at Center High School in Kansas City, with eight grapplers placing in the top five of their respective divisions to receive medals. Excelsior Springs produced three runners-up, a third-place finisher, three fourth-place finishers and one fifth-place finisher.
Analese Happy, Kaitlynn Foster and Jaylenn Hudlemeyer were the runnersup, helping Excelsior Springs place third in the team standings with 206.5 points – .5 point behind second-place Lathrop and 52.5 points behind tournament champion St. Joseph Central.
Happy, a first-year high schooler, went 4-1 in the 110-pound bracket, picking up four wins by fall before dropping the championship match by fall to Center’s Taiyahna Pruett.
Foster went 2-2 at 115. Both of the junior’s wins were by fall.
