At press time, Excelsior Springs had a chance to enter the girls soccer postseason sitting above .500. The Tigers were 7-7 entering their regular-season finale Thursday at Winnetonka in Kansas City. Those wins and losses included an 8-1 drubbing by Smithville May 2 on the road and a 9-0 thumping of Ruskin Monday in Kansas City. SMITHVILLE NOTES Smithville took control early, building a 6-0 halftime lead. The Warriors scored their first goal in the fifth minute, their second in the 12th minute and their third in the 17th minute. Smithville then added goals in the 26th, 33rd and 38th minutes. A goal about midway through the second half made it 7-0. First-year high schooler Madi Wenz spoiled the Warriors’ bid for a shutout by scoring in the 75th minute – her first varsity goal. The Warriors added their final goal with less than two minutes left. Senior goalkeeper Allison Armstrong was credited with 15 saves for Excelsior Springs.
