ES girls netters end week on winning note
Excelsior Springs ended last week’s string of varsity girls tennis duals on a winning note.
After falling 8-1 to both North Kansas City and Benton of St. Joseph, the Tigers rebounded with a 7-2 win over Grandview.
Sophomore Shelby Stodden got the lone win in Excelsior Springs’ Sept. 12 loss to visiting Northtown with an 8-6 decision in No. 5 singles. Senior Lana Nunnenkamp dropped the No. 2 match 8-2 and the Hornets swept the remaining singles matches.
In doubles, seniors Anna Selby and Lauren Mueller dropped the No. 1 match 8-0. Nunnenkamp and sophomore Megan Riegel fell 8-3 in No. 2 doubles. Stodden and sophomore Malaya Tedesco fell 8-0 in the other match.
Tedesco picked up the only win in Excelsior Springs’ Sept. 13 road loss to Benton. Selby dropped her singles match 8-3, with Mueller losing by forfeit, Nunnenkamp losing 8-4, and Riegel and Stodden each falling 8-1.
