The Tigers didn’t have to negotiate many hills when they ran on Sept. 7 at the Marshall Invitational. ”This was a great, flat race where all of our runners were able to earn medals, helping boost the confidence of our runners,” Excelsior Springs cross country coach Brian Smarker said. Technically, Marshall offered two types of distance races – a 2-miler (3,200 meters) for junior varsity runners and a 3.1-miler (5 kilometers) for varsity runners. In the girls junior varsity race, Excelsior Springs placed three runners in the top 10, including two in the top three. Kennedi Winford, a first-year high schooler, was runner-up with her time of 17 minutes, 4.6 seconds; and Camden McDaniels, also a first-year high schooler, placed third in 17:27.6. Junior Audrey Ishmael finished ninth in 19:54.8. In other junior varsity girls results, firstyear high schoolers Trinnady Owens and Elizabeth Budge finished 14th and 15th in 22:05.7 and 26:37.6, respectively. Alec Armstrong was the lone…
