ES netters end regular season with win, bow out in districts
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers got to experience one more triumph before their varsity girls tennis season ended.
On Oct. 1, the Tigers hosted Center for their last regular-season dual. They swept the Yellowjackets 9-0.
“I was really proud of the girls for fighting through a nasty win, and it feels good to end the regular season with a win,” coach Richie Marsh said.
The No. 1 doubles squad of senior Elizabeth Casey and junior Amanda Mayfield started the evening by winning 8-6. Sophomores Annalise Selby and Emma Kern cruised 8-1 in their No. 2 doubles match. Senior Sadie Moore and junior Kaylie Como took their No. 3 doubles match 8-2.
In singles play, Selby and Mayfield each won 8-4 in the No. 1 and No. 2 slots. Casey took a close-knit match 8-6 in the No. 3 slot. Como cruised 8-2 in the No. 4 position. Moore fought her way to an 8-6 win in the No. 5 spot. Kern won 8-2 to finish the sweep.
