ES runners take to trails at Grain Valley, Liberty
The Tigers started logging competitive miles last week in high school cross country.
Excelsior Springs’ season kicked into gear with two meets – the Grain Valley Kickoff, featuring a 2-mile race, held Aug. 30; and the Tim Nixon Invitational, a Sept. 3 competition hosted by Liberty North High School at the Capital Federal Sports Complex.
Senior Jules Morton paced the Excelsior Springs girls at Grain Valley, placing 12th in 15 minutes, 17.17 seconds. Morton was among three Excelsior Springs runners to place in the top 20. Junior Braylissa Whitworth took 15th in 15:34.44. First-year high schoolers Katie Houck and Kristen Stout finished 18th in 16:22.91 and 20th in 16:35.39, respectively.
In other girls results, sophomore Ava Morton finished 24th in 17:29.7, junior Chole Albertson was 28th in 19:15.88 and sophomore Emily Fostich took 29th in 20:19.82.
