ES sends four boys grapplers to state

Four Excelsior Springs boys wrestlers were hoping to have state medals before this week was over. Ryne Marcum, Cooper Collins, Hunter Scoma and Micah Danner competed in Class 2 state competition, which was slated to begin Wednesday and conclude Thursday at Mizzou Arena in Columbia. They qualified for the season-ending tournament by placing in the top four in their respective weight classes at the Class 2 District 4 Tournament, held Feb. 17-18 at Excelsior Springs High School. Marcum, a sophomore; and Collins, a first-year high schooler, each placed second. Scoma, a sophomore, placed third in the 157-pound weight class. Danner, a junior, took fourth at 126. Marcum, wrestling at 132; and Collins, wrestling at 113, each went 2-1. Marcum secured his second trip to state with his runner-up finish.
