ES softballers rally past NKC, then go 1-4 in tourney
The Tigers got their fill of varsity softball last week.
The girls crammed in six games, including five weekend tournament games, going 2-4. They opened the week Sept. 6 against visiting North Kansas City, using a big fourth inning to claim an 8-4 win.
Northtown jumped out to a 2-0 lead, posting a run in the top of the first and another in the top of the third. Excelsior Springs claimed the lead with a run in the bottom of the third and five more in the fourth.
Each team added a pair of runs in the sixth. Pitching and defense held the Hornets scoreless in the seventh to help Excelsior Springs secure the four-run victory.
Senior shortstop Karli Shipman collected two hits and scored three runs to power Excelsior Springs offensively. She was one of two Tigers with two hits.
