ES softballers sting Hornets, then go 1-4 in southern Mo.

The Excelsior Springs varsity softball team hit the road last week. The Tigers faced North Kansas City Sept. 5 at Macken Park, then played five games over two days, Sept. 8-9, in the Springfield area. Excelsior Springs used a 16-hit barrage to cruise past Northtown 12-5. Four Tigers had two or more hits. Junior Alyssa Dean and sophomore Keira Romazon each collected three, with Romazon also driving in five runs. Sophomores Kayden Rogers and Bella Loeffert each had two hits. Rogers also went the distance for the pitching win. Her stat line included six strikeouts, and five earned runs and two walks allowed. The Tigers went 1-4 on their trip to the Springfield area, where they played in the Ozark Fall Festival. They opened by losing to Carthage 17-2. Carthage clanged out 18 total hits, and scored four runs in the first inning, two in the third, four in the fifth and seven in the sixth. Senior Bailey Carder took the loss, going three innings.
