ESFA’s fifth-grade Tigers roll to league title

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Excelsior Springs Football Association has notched another West Central Youth Football League title. The ESFA’s fifth-grade group capped its WCYFL title run recently with a 25-0 win over Harrisonville. During the regular season, the Tigers recorded wins over Oak Grove, Pleasant Hill, Richmond and Harrisonville, going 4-2. They then defeated Richmond 13-6 in the first round of the playoffs before dominating the Wildcats in the championship game. Running the same offensive style as the high school program helped the Tigers win the title. Leaders on offense included Marquese Shouse, Quentin Hicks, Ryder Clevenger and Tallon Smidt. “We were a very balanced team on offense,” coach Mike McCoy said. “Each one of these guys scored anywhere from four-seven touchdowns each.” Defensively, the Tigers led the league by notching three shutouts and allowing an average of 4.6 points a game. “No one wanted to deal with our defensive tackles of Hicks and (Emerson) Davis,”…
