ESHS soccer player, distance runner pursues premier athlete status
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Typically, being a premier athlete means being a year-round athlete.
An Excelsior Springs sophomore is putting in the work to become one of those premier athletes.
His name: Mason Wartner. A member of Excelsior Springs’ boys soccer and boys track programs, he was a Missouri River Valley Conference West Division honorable mention, an academic all-conference selection, a Golden Boot Award-winner and Newcomer of the Year as a freshman soccer player. He is a returning starter for Tigers coach Zac Ganzer’s varsity team.
Wartner spends much of his time outside of school, and school sports, running and playing soccer. When the school season is over, he plays for the Amigos Futbol Club, also known as Amigos FC.
Amigos FC consists of a group of area athletes who play in leagues and tournaments throughout the region, including a trip to Wisconsin, where the club finished 6-3 and placed third.
