Excelsior grad sets 5,000 indoor record
Excelsior Springs High School graduate Michael Rebello has put his name in the Bradley University record books.
Robello, the 2019 Class 3 state cross country champion and a 2020 Excelsior Springs graduate, set the school indoor record for the 5,000-meter run this winter while representing Bradley at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational. His time of 13 minutes, 53.42 seconds eclipsed the old record by 8.44, Bradley track and field records state.
Matt Aho set the old record in 2023.
The record-setting performance followed for a series of triumphs for Rebello, who recently finished his senior year at Bradley, a Peoria, Ill.-based, NCAA Division I school. In 2022, for example, he was the indoor 3,000 and 5,000 Missouri River Valley Conference (MVC) champion.
