Excelsior Springs bowler rolls up perfect 300 score

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – On Jan. 31, Joshua Oldham accomplished a goal serious bowlers pursue, sometimes in vain: He rolled a perfect game. The Excelsior Springs High School sophomore was participating in the Heart of America Junior Classic Big Guy/Little Guy tournament when he rolled 12 consecutive strikes during round-robin match play to achieve bowling’s perfect score of 300. “By the time I got to my last ball, my heart was pounding,” Oldham said. “I took my time, kept the ball tight as I threw it and watched it go through the pins.” As the final pin fell, Oldham clapped his hands. He was met with high-fives and fist bumps from his opponents and others watching the momentous occasion. Oldham has bowled for more than four years. He credits much of his success to his mentor and coach, Jerry Ferrell. “He pushes me as a bowler and a person,” Oldham said. “He took me under his wing and has shown me the sport and inspires me with his ability to bowl and to make people around him happy…
