Excelsior Springs girls netters get swept in opening-week duals

The first week of the girls tennis season left Excelsior Springs wanting a win. Excelsior Springs went 0-2 in duals last week, falling 9-0 to William Chrisman of Independence Aug. 28 and 9-0 to Lafayette County of Higginsville Aug. 30. Both duals were at Excelsior Springs. The Tigers nearly came away with two wins against Chrisman, one of them in doubles. The No. 1 doubles tandem of juniors Shelby Stodden and Malaya Tedesco lost 8-6. In other doubles results, first-year high schooler Laney Smith and junior Megan Riegel fell in the second spot 8-3. Junior Rebecca McDade and firstyear high schooler Olivia Deere fell 8-1 in the third spot. In singles results, Stodden dropped the No. 1 match 8-4. The Bears picked up a forfeit win by injury in the second spot and then an 8-3 win over Smith in the third spot. Riegel battled to an 8-6 loss in the No. 4 match.
