Excelsior Springs soccer club focuses on long-term goal

February 20, 2018 – The idea behind the Amigos, a soccer club in Excelsior Springs, was to feed the Excelsior Springs High School program with quality soccer players. According to coach Mario DeLeon, that goal has been accomplished.

The Amigos also wanted to offer a higher level of soccer at a more reasonable cost to those kids who wanted a more competitive atmosphere. The club began in December of 2011 with a single team of about 10 players. This 2018 season, there are now seven teams, with an age range of six to 18 years old.

“We’ve had the chance to disperse our players into other teams within our club, but our goal is to keep these kids playing together at a young age so they will work magic on the field when they get to the high school level,” explained DeLeon. “These kids are friends, classmates, cousins, but most importantly, teammates. The best thing we can give them before they get to play at the high school level, is to learn how to play successfully as a team and grow together throughout seasons.”
