Jaxen Gibson has his first win this season.
Pitching in relief for Greenville (Ill.)
University, an NCAA Division III program, the 2019 Excelsior Springs graduate struck out two, walked two and allowed only one hit through four innings of the Panthers’ 9-4 victory Feb. 25 over visiting Wheaton (Ill.) College. The win helped the Panthers split a doubleheader.
Wheaton took the other game 18-6.
Gibson and his fellow Panthers were 2-4 overall through Wednesday, when Greenville fell 6-4 to the Rose-Institute of Technology at Art Nehf Field in Terre Haute, Ind. They’re slated to play a doubleheader Friday at Greenville against the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
Gibson has pitched for four seasons at Greenville. Last season, the righthander made 14 appearances, including 12 starts. He got the decision in nine appearances, going 5-4 and posting 5.94 ERA.
