Excelsior Springs nearly got its first win this season in varsity basketball during last week’s Lawson Invitational.After dropping their tournament opener 60-45 to eventual runner-up West Platte Jan. 14, the Tigers took the host school to double overtime Jan. 15, falling 76-62. They finished with a 49-35 loss to Odessa in the seventh-place game.The Tigers tried to play catchup against West Platte. The Blue Jays led 31-20 at halftime.Excelsior Springs fought its way to within one (38-37) during the second half. West Platte pulled away with a 13-point, fourth-quarter run.Easton Ryan paced the Tigers with 15 points. The senior’s stat line also included eight rebounds.Other contributors were seniors Jake Zapata and Cole Rhine with eight points each, junior Brody Querry and sophomore Owen O’Dell with six apiece, and junior Marquez McCant with two....
